There are times in life where it is imperative that you show up prepared and ready to do your job. The other night was one of those moments for the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets. Tied 2-2 in the Western Conference, the Lakers knew it was important to show up and destroy the Nuggets so that they could take over the lead with the hopes of winning the Western Conference finals. Kobe Bryant scored 22 points, Lamar Odom had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Pau Gasol had 14 points and 10 rebounds to take the game 103-94. Kobe Bryant admitted that changing his role in the game and allowing his team members to take a more active role was an attributing factor to their win, saying:
“It was a big gamble for me coming in, but I wanted to change my approach this game and be more of a decoy. The past couple games they really were loading to my side and I figured I could be a decoy and try to give chances to my teammates.” – Kobe Bryant
Thanks to Kobe’s role reversal, the Lakers won in a big way! Let’s hope they keep this up now that they lead the series 3-2 and play the Nuggets again tonight. The Lakers have been lofty when it comes to consistent playing though, so I’m not sure what to expect from them other than losing disastrously tonight only to come back big on Sunday. I guess we’ll see!
