The Los Angeles Lakers went to Orlando with a mission to accomplish and left as the 2009 NBA Champions after winning Game 5 against the Magic. This win was a major victory, not only for the club itself, but for Kobe as this was his first title win and MVP nod without being partnered with former Laker Shaquille O’Neal. From the get go it was apparent that the Orlando Magic were not ready to give up the championship to the Lakers, but by the end of the first quarter the Margic realized their hopes of keeping the series alive were slim. By the end of the third quarter it was apparent that the Magic had let the Championship slip through their fingers.
This was a huge win for the Lakers as it’s their 15th Championship title. It’s the fourth title win for Kobe Bryant and Derek Fischer as a Laker. And the 10th Championship title win for Los Angeles Laker coach Phil Jackson, setting him aside as one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time. It was an extraordinarily awesome game, watching the team come together in the end as they realized they’d finally accomplished their goal after a disappointing loss against the Boston Celtics last year. Now all we have to do is wait for our golden boys to come home so they can share their win with our great city!
