Snap Judgement! This Weekend at the Movies!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I was planning to write a normal Snap Judgment column this week, featuring reviews of the multiple watch-worthy films, except I ran into a problem: There are pretty much no releases except Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Sure, there’s My Sister’s Keeper, but I have no interest in seeing that girl from Little Miss Sunshine give her internal organs to her sister that’s dying of cancer. DOWNER! I’m pretty sure the reason there aren’t any other major releases this week is that the studios figured everyone would be going to see Transformers - a wise guess in my opinion. The movie has everything going for it - tons of nostalgia from anyone born between 1975 and 2005, Megan Fox and her Foxiness, Shia LeBeouf and his adorable face, and more RobotsInDisguise than one could hope for. The 2007 Transformers was fun, eye-popping movie candy, and we can probably expect the same thing from this film.

Revenge finds Sam going to college (at my fancy pants alma mater, The University of Pennsylvania) only to be chased by some piece of metal with ancient writing on it. Then he goes nuts and the RobotsInDisguise have to show up and tell him why he’s having all sorts of weird visions. Then there are RobotFights and explosions for two hours and it seems like Megan Fox is going to die and Sam saves everyone by out smarting the Deceptacons. I think. Anyway, this movie promises to be totally entertaining, bright, and wont make you think too hard about anything, except how Megan Fox looks gorgeous even though she’s supposed to be all tired and dirty from running away from enormous robots. Realistic? No. Beautiful? Yes.

PS: My one criticism of the first film (and probably this one) is that it didn’t include the famous Transformers theme song, which I kept waiting for the whole time. They could have had someone totally awesome do a cover of it but instead they just left it out. Lame! In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s the theme song:
