AMP was out in full force at the Britney Spears concert last night! The Staples Center was packed with fans eager to get a piece of Britney’s Circus, and I was excited to be in the sea of people headed in to see the Queen B. Even though I’ve been a fan since the 7th grade when Britney’s belly bearing “Baby One More Time” video hit MTV, I have never had the chance to see her perform live until The Circus, and Britney did not disappoint!
As soon as we got inside, we made our way up to the AMP suite where we got a clear view of the giant stage that took up much of the floor of the Staples Center. Kristinia DeBarge took the stage first for a brief performance and then it was time for Jordin Sparks. She sang her ass off and worked the crowd with her songs “Battlefield,” “S.O.S.” and “No Air.” That girl has some serious pipes! No wonder she won American Idol!
After Jordin was done, the countdown to Britney began. After 25 minutes of patiently waiting, it was finally time for the Circus to begin! Perez Hilton came on the big screen to introduce the show that included over 20 dancers and specialty performers, including one legless circus star who flipped and tricked on a trampoline. A few more dancers came out to wow the crowd with their balancing acts and insane flexibility, and then Britney took the stage and kicked things off with my favorite performance of the night! “All eyes on me in the center of the ring just like a Circus…” She cracked that whip and everyone in the Staples Cneter was definitely tripping, screaming – so excited to see her! She commanded the crowd and her fleet of dancers with intensity – the mama of two has still got that star quality that keeps venues packed! Lights and pyrotechnics filled the sold out Staples Center and she worked it out!
She performed many of her hit songs (“Baby One More Time,” “Everytime,” “Womanizer,” “Me Against The Music,” “Slave 4 U”) but the set list didn’t include my favorite song from her Circus album – “Kill The Lights.” Nevertheless, her Circus was a huge production that no one will soon forget. Her sparkly costumes could be seen from even the nosebleed seats and her dancers were amazing!
After the show was over, we walked out to the AMP tent where Dre, our resident street team DJ, was spinning tracks outside the venue. Before we knew it, a huge dance party erupted outside! The entire street was blocked with Britney fans still on a high from the show. For a good 20 minutes the crowd danced to the music until Staples Center security made us shut down. “Fire hazard” they called it. Oh well, one thing’s for sure – last night is one I will not soon forget!
