This is the week to spread kindness and selflessly put others before you. Plus, now you have a reason to hold the door open for that hottie behind you.

If Valentine’s Day wasn’t enough love for you, then brace yourself for Random Acts of Kindness Week from February 15-21! This week is all about spreading happiness to each other and celebrating the goodness in the world.

Take a lesson from this guy: 51-year-old Jeff Ondash from Ohio just broke the world record for giving the most hugs in one day outside the Paris Casino-Hotel in Las Vegas. As his alter-ego “Teddy McHuggin,” Ondash squeezed his way to a world record of 7,777 hugs, beating the previous record of 5,000. His hug-a-thon cause started in order to raise money for the American Heart Association during American Heart Month.

“When you hug somebody, they all walk away from each other smiling,” Ondash said. “They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away; a hug a day, it’s just fun.”

Maybe “Teddy McHuggin” got his idea from the Dave Matthews Band video “Everyday.” Watch as 30 Rock’s Frank hugs his way through the city, bringing smiles to everyone he meets.

So take advantage of this week and spread some joy to everyone around you! Even little acts like a smile or letting someone merge during a traffic jam can brighten their day. Trust me, it’s a great feeling when a stranger lets you know you left you headlights on! Whew, dodged that bullet.

    I couldn’t agree more!
I have started a year long commitment to giving ( $10 to someone I don’t know every day. I have chosen this vehicle of $10…however, there are much more valuable gifts/acts that you can do that are free. Several homeless people that I have given my $10 to have told me that the most valuable gift that they have received on the streets is conversation.
Even if you are unable or don’t believe in helping a homeless person financially, stop and ask them how their day is going. Ask them their name and remember it so the next time you walk by, you can say hello. Trust me, it means a lot to them
