Snap! Judgment: Hot Tub Time Machine, Greenberg, How to Train Your Dragon
One hot tub, one dragon, and one… what the hell is a Greenberg? Those are the three big movies for this weekend and as usual, here are quick peek reviews with trailers included.
* Hot Tub Time Machine
Hell. Yes. I will definitely be seeing this one. If the name of the movie isn’t enough to lure you, you might need to put your sense of humor in check. John Cusak, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke are four friends that, well… for lack of better words, travel back in time via magical hot tub. What shennanigans can ensue? One can only guess. Yeah I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot of toilet humor, but you know what, sometimes a cheap laugh is better than no laugh at all. Take your boyfriend. He’ll thank you. Chevy Chase also makes a notable appearance.
Ben Stiller in a serious, hipster movie? Not my cup of tea but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued. He plays an unemployed New Yorker who relocates to our very own LA in order to housesit for his brother. That takes him on a soul searching journey which also leads him to start an unusual romance with his brother’s assistant. The part in the trailer when he’s writing the letter to Starbuck’s makes me laugh. If the rest of the film is as good as that, I might consider spending a few bucks during its limited release.
* How to Train Your Dragon
Yet another 3-D movie and it seems the trend isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. This movie may be animated but as expected, it has a lot of familiar voices behind it: Gerard Butler. Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, America Ferrera, Kristen Wiig, Jay Baruchel (“Shes Out Of My League”), and “McLovin” Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The story is about a young Viking that must tame a dragon as a rite of passage, but my opinion? Who really cares that much about the story when it’s in 3-D! The graphics should be the the focus and blow your mind… Keyword there is should. Either way, children will LOVE IT. Let’s hope there’s some humor thrown in for the older kids, too.
