She wowed judges with her rendition of [lastfm]Whitney Houston[/lastfm]‘s “I’ve Got Nothing,” as a contestant on “American’s Got Talent.” However, her star power was not enough to win the 2007 season of the talent show and Alexis took her vocal power to the web, recording popular songs and uploading them to Youtube.
The 17-year-olds recordings went viral on the web, making her an overnight sensation and capturing the attention of rapper and mogul Jay-Z who flew her from her North Carolina home to New York City. Alexis explains:
I thought if they didn’t love me then they wouldn’t fly me all the way out to New York. I knew I had a good chance. Once I got out there we recorded a few songs and Jay-Z came to the studio. I was so excited! And the next thing I knew I was signed to StarRoc/Roc Nation.
Alexis recently released a sneak peak of her single, “Happiness,” on Youtube for her fans to get a listen. Check it out and tell us if you think that Alexis has what it takes to be the next big thing in music!
