Fresh off his spectacular 40 point performance in Game 1, Kobe Bryant was peppered with double teams whenever he touched the ball, forcing him to work the high-low game with Gasol. Kobe Bryant played the role of facilitator by dishing 13 assists to go along with his 21 points.
“We’re shooting the ball very well, moving the ball really, really well,” Gasol said. “Our bench is playing at a high level, and we’re all stepping up.”
When the Lakers faced a double team, they did a great job finding the open man for the open shot. Once again LA had a stellar shooting night from the field averaging 57.7 percent. The triangle offense had the Suns’ players running around like headless chickens.
“We can’t slow them down,” Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry said. “I thought we played well offensively, but every time we tried to make an adjustment to slow them down offensively, they would go somewhere else. There’s a good reason they’re the world champs, but we’ll keep plugging away, keep trying.”
The win marked the Lakers’ 8th straight playoff victory and moves them within two wins of a possible NBA Finals rematch with the Boston Celtics.
Game 3 is Saturday at 5:30 p.m. PST in Phoenix.
