american idol5 Lee Is A Class Act, Crystal Kisses Up To Simon On Idol Finale Part 1

On night one of the season 9 finale of American Idol, the final two were each given three songs to show they’re “in it to win it.” Being the last time they’ll ever perform on Idol, you would assume Crystal and Lee would bring it to the stage, but just like this entire season, some of their performances were a bit of a let down. So who do you think will win the title of American Idol?!

It’s come down to the “Good Guy” Lee DeWyze and the always outstanding Crystal Bowersox in the final two of American Idol.  Each picked their favorite song performed earlier in the season, sang a choice picked by executive producer Simon Fuller and closed the night with their potential single release if winning the title.

Lee’s performances:

His choice - “The Boxer” [lastfm]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm]
Simon Fuller’s pick - “Everybody Hurts” [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm]
Potential Single - “Beautiful Day” [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]

Crystal’s performances:

Her choice - “Me And Bobby McGee” [lastfm]Janis Joplin[/lastfm]
Simon Fuller’s Pick - “Black Velvet” [lastfm]Alannah Myles[/lastfm]
Potential Single - “Up To The Mountain” [lastfm]Patty Griffin[/lastfm]

All in all their performances were decent, but some renditions fell a little flat, like Lee’s uncomfortable, un-energetic performance of “Beautiful Day.”  Both have an equal shot winning this season, but if I had to choose based on the performances last night, Crystal deserves to win.  Plus, that humbling thank you speech she gave Simon before his very last critique may have pushed her to the top.  Ah, well-played, Crystal, well-played.

Watch their best performances of the night and vote who you think will win season 9 of American Idol!

Crystal Bowersox: “Up To The Mountain”

Lee DeWyze: “Everybody Hurts”
