Britney Spears Bottles Her Mojo, Makes Bank (and Records)
[lastfm]Britney Spears[/lastfm]. Do we even have to give you her resume? The brazen blonde bombshell has broken hearts and flipped off paparazzi since the day she popped out of Mama Spears’ womb. We all sat in our jammies watching her on Mickey Mouse Club, secretly learned the choreography to “Baby Hit Me One More Time” in our bathroom mirrors, and bought her cute Candie’s clothes.
Now Brit-Brit has another perfume out just in time to spray it all over her at a celebratory party for being one of few to see more than 100 million records. And that was just the first 29 years of her life. ‘Curious’ about the mojo Spears is selling? Hit more baby, one more time.
First things first, our theory is that part of [lastfm]Britney Spears[/lastfm]’ magical power over the media is the way she smells. Why else would she be trying to create a perfume empire that rivals [lastfm]Diddy[/lastfm]?
Her newest scent Radiance looks like we bedazzled it at a sleepover in 7th grade before we played a riveting sesh of Girl Talk. But, if you can handle some sensory overload right now, it sounds like it smells better than it looks. [lastfm]
Britney Spears[/lastfm] teamed up with Elizabeth Arden, the cosmetics guru, to create a scent that has wild berries and soft dewy petals as its top notes and tuberose, jasmine, orange flower, iris and a hint of musk. Basically, an ultra-sensual girly floral.
Is the soft, sensual girly girl in the cheesy package a metaphor for [lastfm]Britney Spears[/lastfm]’ domination over the world? We think so.
Her minions with lots of time on their hands are making fake Radiance TV commercials like this one:
Which brings us to our second totally logical point: selling perfume sells records.
It was just announced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that Brit has sold 100 million records. Out of all the female artists ever, she is ranked 5th in sales and she is the #1 selling female artist of the 2000s. Despite the weight gain, the shaved head, the Kevin Federline, Spears is still #1.
Obviously because of her perfume.
Proof is in the potpourri. Spears joins [lastfm]Mariah Carey[/lastfm] who also has a perfume line. Other women who have sold more than 100 million records are [lastfm]Janet Jackson[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Whitney Houston[/lastfm].
If you want to smell like Britney, put the Red Bull and Cheetos down and pick up Radiance. The new fragrance will be available around September in a 50ml and 100ml sizes, each priced at $63 and $78.
Because not only does it seem everyone wants a “piece” of Britney, they want to smell like Britney too.
