There’s been swirls of rumors for the past couple of months about who will fill in the coveted judges chair now that Simon Cowell‘s out…and now that Ellen’s out…and Kara DioGuardi…so the show’s pretty much starting from scratch minus the last remaining orignal judge, Randy Jackson.
So have the American Idol producers finally settled on replacements for next season? According to these two artists, they’re the ones taking over the judging duty.

We’ve heard rumors that big name artists [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm], [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm], [lastfm]Barry Manilow[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bret Michaels[/lastfm] — and the list goes on – were being considered to take over the vacant judging seats, but those all fell through. So what’s plan B to salvage the struggling show?
According to sources, triple threat artist [lastfm]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] and frontman of [lastfm]Aerosmith[/lastfm] Steven Tyler are slated to step in with Randy Jackson for the next season of Idol.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Idol reps about the decision, but if the rumors are true, the judging duty could help revive J. Lo’s slumping career as well as boost the decline in ratings for the show.
Tyler apparently let his new status of Idol judge slip out during a concert in Las Vegas over the weekend when asked about his future plans and responded: “Recording an album and I’m probably going to be judge on American Idol.”
He later added: ”I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”
He seems pretty sure that the decision is finalized, and J. Lo has been in talks with Idol boss Simon Fuller for several weeks. Can you see [lastfm]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Steven Tyler[/lastfm] as the new Paula and Simon?
