Lace and Leather: Launch of Madonna’s Material Girl Clothing Line
Lacy. Sassy. Fresh, flirty, fun! Madonna’s new junior clothing line for Macy’s, Material Girl is a mix of upper-class Gossip Girl with a punk-rock Betsey Johnson edge. Yesterday in NYC at Macy’s Herald Square, the girlie-glam clothing line had a great opening party complete with hot pink cupcakes rockin’ the words “Material Girl.”
While Mama Madonna wasn’t there this time around, she is scheduled to appear with her daughter Lola on September 2nd for another party dedicated to the cutie-couture clothing brand.
The new pieces definitely have a Desperately Seeking Susan rock ‘n roll vibe but with that touch of class and sophistication contemporary girls are looking for in a wardrobe fit for the teens of 2010.
The giant head bow is playful while the high-waisted jeans with loose blazer are chic, runway ready and practical.
Boyish flat and flannels are glammed up with lace inserts and hot pink accents.
Lacey leggings make short-short skirts doable for teens and more punk than provocative.
Madonna did a stellar job at representing three of the most important ambitions of a designer: what modern teens want, what will sell, and what really encapsulates the early essence of Madonna as a young material girl.
