The rumors started when [lastfm]Chris Brown[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Usher[/lastfm] performed together at Reggae SumFest in Montego Bay, Jamaica, as we told you last month. But both camps are now squashing the chatter – Brown will not be the support act on Usher’s upcoming tour. What happened?
According to industry insiders, the biggest obstacle to the tour is Brown’s contract with Live Nation. The music marketing and ticketing giant would not grant Brown a waiver to perform on tour with a non-Nation artist, says sources.
The other reason being bandied about by some is the still-lingering fallout from Brown’s abuse of ex-girlfriend [lastfm]Rihanna[/lastfm] before the 2009 Grammys, but unnamed sources in Usher’s camp deny that.
“Usher has no issue with Chris,” one insider says. “He and his camp were absolutely positive to the notion of touring. There were discussions, but it did not pan out.”
Here’s a clip (with heavy bass distortion) of what we’re missing out on:
Don’t feel too bad for Brown, though; his movie Takers was the top film at the box office this weekend, narrowly edging The Last Exorcism.
As for [lastfm]Usher[/lastfm], he has not announced his full tour plans yet. Here’s hoping for a date at the Staples Center soon…
