We’d like to think our icons are impervious to the pitfalls that many other artists fall victim to, but perhaps our optimism makes us blind to the truth. This story involves the one-and-only [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] being hospitalized for leading a lifestyle none-too-familiar to women in Hollywood.
An upcoming [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] biography, by Pulitzer Prize-nominated author Maureen Callahan, shows the pop star in a different light than the one flaunted in the public eye. While the 24-year-old appears to ooze confidence and non-conformity, she may have confidence issues that run deeper than mere insecurity.
According to Gaga‘s former tour manager David Ciemny, the headline grabber was hospitalized six times in 2009 due to extreme dieting. He also alleges, when she is not on extreme diets, she binge eats on junk food.
The book also includes allegations by music producer Wendy Starland, who discovered Gaga back when she still went by her real name, [lastfm]Stefani Germanotta[/lastfm]. She said of the stress put on the singer during her rise to fame, “The pressure on her to lose weight was very high.”
The Lady Gaga tell-all, “Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga,” hits stores Sept. 14.
