Despite being offered a record deal when she was the ripe-old age of six-years-old, acting on The Bernie Mac Show and American Dreams, and having one of the most interesting R & B voices of most modern teen music artists, [lastfm]JoJo[/lastfm] has remained on the periphery of full-fledged stardom. But not for long;[lastfm]JoJo [/lastfm]has come out with an album teaser, the 11-track digital mixtape, Can’t Take That Away From Me which includes her first single “In The Dark.”
With essences of [lastfm]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], [lastfm]Beyoncé[/lastfm], and [lastfm]Brandy[/lastfm], [lastfm]JoJo’s[/lastfm] new mixtape has the R&B diva sound made popular in the 1990s with a slight electronic edge. The production is a little cheesy; some of the songs have unnecessary auto-tuning while others highlight [lastfm]JoJo’s[/lastfm] raw vocal quality. While that bothered us at first, it does fit what [lastfm]JoJo[/lastfm] says she hoped to accomplish with this project:
This mixtape is more experimental, I was able to explore the full spectrum of things that interest me and inspire me musically. Whereas the album, I wanted to make pop records and radio hits and things that satisfy me, but particularly for [All I Want Is Everything], it’s more of a continuous body of work.
