Whoa. Hey everyone! Breaking news! MTV (which stands for Music Television) is actually going to start having music-inspired television again. Don’t worry. You’ll still get Snooki passing out drunk in a tanning bed from too much 4 loko and plenty of teen moms addicted to sizzurp. Just now you’ll also have a 30 minute TRL-esque show called The Seven.

MTV hasn’t had a pop culture or true music show since Total Request Live (TRL) went off the air two years ago. On September 27th, that will all change with The Seven–a show hosted by Kevin Manno and Julie Alexandria and created for modern youth. Reminiscent of Twitter‘s “Trending Topics,” the show will focus on seven important topics of the day including music, fashion, pop-culture, and of course, celebrity scandal.
MTV programming president and co-creator of TRL, Tony DiSanto explains his desire to put The Seven on the air:
It’s been a big goal of mine to get us back into the live-series is this. I wanted to get into day-and-date topical programming, and there’s just something about having a live show during a time of day where everything else is pre-taped.
Hopefully, the show focuses on music and culture like TRL did and not trash talking and snarking on celebs. We miss the “old days” when we could come home from school, eat a snack, and watch Carson Daly interviewing [lastfm]Justin Timberlake.[/lastfm]
Those were the good days. But at least we can still get our Carson fix on AMP!
