B.o.B Rocks The Switch Party!
[lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm] might be the busiest emcee on the planet right now. He opened for [lastfm]Eminem[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Jay-Z[/lastfm] last week in Detroit. He’s playing the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. Then he’s getting on a plane and opening for Em and Hov again in New York City on Monday and Tuesday. But for one night, he was all ours, as he busted out his hits at Highlands in Hollywood for the AMP End of Summer Switch Party!
Opening up with “Magic,” [lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm] showcased a side of himself that we don’t often get to see, playing the acoustic guitar and singing the part that [lastfm]Rivers Cuomo[/lastfm] of [lastfm]Weezer[/lastfm] takes care of on the record.
Seeing [lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm] keep a live audience entranced while simply singing and sitting on a stool gives one an idea of his popularity; [lastfm]Bobby Ray[/lastfm] has a level of charisma and magnetism that isn’t often seen with artists of his young age.
Backed by another acoustic guitarist, a bassist and two backup singers, [lastfm]Bobby Ray[/lastfm] then asked the crowd to “put up your plane wings” before launching into an inspired take on “Airplanes.”
The crowd, which had been in a dancing mood since minutes before when Carson, Michelle and McCabe were throwing t-shirts into the crowd, exploded.
That frenzy lasted through the evening’s finale, [lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm]’s career-making hit “Nothin’ On You.” For the first half of the song, [lastfm]Bobby Ray[/lastfm] relied on a backing track to provide the [lastfm]Bruno Mars[/lastfm] vocals.
But midway through, he gave it over to the crowd, and the crowd did not disappoint. The voices of everyone from concert winners to VIPs helped carry [lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm] and his band through to the end of the track and the end of the show.
