[lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]’s “Thriller” was 14 minutes. [lastfm]Snoop Dogg[/lastfm]’s “Murder Was the Case” was 18 minutes. But [lastfm]Kanye West[/lastfm] has never felt restrained by what artists before him have done; his short film “Runaway” will clock in at around 40 minutes, according to the man himself!
The film will be a preview of the album West said, and will star him and a fallen phoenix.
“It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world,” he said. “I’ve been feeling the idea of the phoenix. It’s been in my heart for a while. It’s maybe parallel to my career. I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person.”
The video, which might be subtitled “My Dark, Twisted Fantasy,” was shot in Prague a few weeks ago, as we told you at the time.
Of course, we’ve never though Kanye needed a big production budget to rock a music video:
A 40-minute movie seems like a bit of overkill, doesn’t it? And does this mean 40 minutes of watching Yeezy try to act?
