Technically, the [lastfm]Black Eyed Peas[/lastfm] won’t be “getting it started” at Super Bowl XLV in February of 2011. But the Los Angeles hip-hop group will be right in the middle of it – the Peas will be playing the halftime show!
One of the biggest stages in the world of music for any act, the halftime show at the Super Bowl has been played by rock legends like [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] and [lastfm]the Who[/lastfm] in recent years. The NFL has tried to book more mainstream-friendly acts ever since the fiasco in 2004, when [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm] ripped off a part of [lastfm]Janet Jackson[/lastfm]’s costume, baring most of her right breast.
The [lastfm]Black Eyed Peas[/lastfm] have played some pretty big stages on their own, too, opening for [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] on its “[lastfm]U2[/lastfm] 360” tour and Oprah Winfrey‘s 24th Season Kickoff Party last fall in Chicago.
Do you think this is a good match for the Super Bowl halftime show? If you got to book any artist for halftime, knowing the act would have to have broad appeal to football fans, who would you book?
