Atlantic Records better recognize: the public loves [lastfm]Lupe Fiasco[/lastfm] and we want his new album out like…yesterday! Fiasco’s album Lasers has been floating around through major label bureaucracy and fans won’t stand for it anymore; Fiasco’s fans are staging the Fiasco Friday protest on October 15th outside of Atlantic Records.
Super-fans will stage a demonstration outside of Atlantic Records’ New York offices after the record label kept the lid tight on the finished Lasers project. Lupe Fiasco himself has reiterated his frustration via the internet many times:
It’s one of the sadder parts of being on a major record label. At a certain point it’s out of your hands. About a date for ‘Lasers,’ it’s truly on them. I have no idea what they’re going to do.
If you can’t join in New York, you can hit up http://www.fiascofriday.com/ to sign an online petition that has already accrued close to 30,000 signatures.
We can’t decide whether this is a massive publicity stunt by Fiasco and the record label to generate buzz or whether the evil record industry is really depriving the public of awesome music.
Regardless, when the album finally comes out, the fans will be beamin’:
And maybe the record label will say, gotcha’!
