There are good squels, like Godfather 2 or Empire Strikes Back. There are bad sequels, like Godfather 3. And then, there are the new plans for a sequel to “Stan,” the [lastfm]Eminem[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Dido[/lastfm] smash hit from years ago, starring [lastfm]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Swizz Beatz[/lastfm].
The song will be titled “Anne,” according to Beatz, and is taking “something that people remember and putting them in that time and taking it to the next level, the way that Wayne tells Anne he’s sorry what happened to Stan. The album is crazy.”
“Anne” will find its way onto Beatz’ upcoming album Haute Living, which features a massive guest list: His wife [lastfm]Alicia Keys[/lastfm], [lastfm]Beyonce[/lastfm], [lastfm]Jay-Z[/lastfm], [lastfm]Mary J Blige[/lastfm], [lastfm]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Kanye West[/lastfm], among many, many others.
The hip-hop sequel is not a new idea in itself: [lastfm]Jay-Z[/lastfm] put out three albums that shared the Blueprint name, while recurring themes and characters go back to the [lastfm]EPMD[/lastfm] classic “Jane” series. But usually the same artists are involved throughout the series, and [lastfm]Eminem[/lastfm] turned down Beatz’ offer to get involved.
Do you think a new “Stan” can work without the combo of [lastfm]Eminem[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Dido[/lastfm]?
