Justin Timberlake Influences

Today’s the day: The Social Network opens in theaters all around Los Angeles! To celebrate, we take a closer look at one of its stars, AMP favorite [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm], and figure out what is it that makes him tick.

Where, musically, does he come from?

3 Parts [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]: More than just a singer, [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm] was an entertainer of the first degree. Timberlake might be one of the best to combine singing, dancing and grandiose productions since MJ’s passing.

2 Parts [lastfm]Bobby Brown[/lastfm]: Before the coke, before [lastfm]Whitney Houston[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bobby Brown[/lastfm] was the breakout star of [lastfm]New Edition[/lastfm]. Take one look at “Every Little Step” and tell us that JT didn’t learn anything from Bobby.

1 Part [lastfm]Prince[/lastfm]: Vocally, JT and the purple wonder from Minnesota share a lot in common: The low-register talk, the falsetto, the sometimes-provocative lyrics. The dancing might be [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm], but there’s definitely some Purple Rain in here too…

Dash of [lastfm]The Neptunes[/lastfm]: The dancing, the singing, and so much else of the JT package could be seen during his [lastfm]N Sync[/lastfm] days. But it took [lastfm]The Neptunes[/lastfm] to pull it all together on Timberlake’s first solo album. While he might have been working with a pretty finished product, it still stands to reason that [lastfm]The Neptunes[/lastfm] producing most of Justified put Justin on the path to where he is today.

When you see [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm], who else do you see?
