MTV’s adding Punk’d to their on-air schedule but this time Ashton Kutcher won’t be the host. Rumors indicate that MTV is courting teen sensation [lastfm]Justin Bieber[/lastfm] to take over as the frontman of the show, which pulls pranks on famous actors, musicians and comedians. However, Ashton Kutcher isn’t out of the picture entirely.
Kutcher will not longer be the face of the franchise, but he’s not giving up control of the show, as he’s executive producer of the series reboot via his Katalyst Entertainment.
Initially, Kutcher ended the show because he’d pulled pranks on everyone in the entertainment industry and felt the show needed time to simmer and hoped to eventually revive Punk’d. Which now seems like the best thing that could have happened to Punk’d because the reboot comes at the expense of a bunch of new popular celebrities that were not around while Kutcher was host.
They might actually have the right guy for the job because earlier this year, Bieber was almost arrested after playing a prank on police by throwing water balloons on them. However, we’re going to guess that water balloon pranks are small time in comparison to what MTV will have in store for its victims.
In case you’ve never seen Punk’d check out this video of Ashton Kutcher pranking AMP artist [lastfm]Kanye West[/lastfm] on the set of his music video for “Jesus Walks”:
