Could it be that two of the most flamboyantly stylish artists in pop music, [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm], are planning a collaboration? Think of the eye wear alone!
“I love her, and I love her ability to write,” John recently said of the Mother Monster. “I love the songs she writes.”
But it goes far beyond a mutual admiration. “There’s a chance I might do one track with her [for Gaga's next record Born This Way], but it’s just, she’s so busy, and I’m so busy, we can never get together!”
Born This Way is likely heading toward an early 2011 release, and is already mostly finished. [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm] has already gotten a listen to the new work, and he’s something other than “Speechless.”
“I’ve already heard [Gaga's new album], so I think it’s more or less done,” he said. “Her record—it’s —-ing amazing. ‘Born This Way,’ which is the title song, will completely get rid of [lastfm]Gloria Gaynor[/lastfm]’s ‘I Will Survive.’ This is the new ‘I Will Survive.’ That was the gay anthem. This is the new gay anthem. Actually, it’s not a gay anthem—it can apply to anybody.”
If the album’s done and a release date has been internally set, it’s unlikely that there’s time for an Elton-Gaga duet. But if it’s still a work in progress, we could see one. Would you be willing to get Born This Way a couple of months later in exchange for an [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm]/[lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] duet?
