Last night’s EMAs saw Kanye West take to the stage with 30 Seconds to Mars, for a performance of their collaboration “Hurricane”. Fans were then treated to Kanye performing “Power” solo – but which artist were they really looking forward to?
Last.fm Trends takes a look at both of the acts’ popularity to see who comes out on top in this meeting of rock and hip-hop heavyweights…
“Hurricane” was released as part of 30 Seconds to Mars’ third album This Is War in December, and our Recent Trend graph shows it’s still gaining popularity with an October peak of 4.7k listeners. It’s nowhere near their most popular track, however: 2006’s “The Kill” boasts 5,388,515 scrobbles from 517,749 listeners.
“Power” meanwhile made its debut in June, with a spike of 5.4k weekly listeners as fans rushed for new material – however, its popularity is now levelling. Kanye’s most popular track is “Stronger,” with 4,545,200 scrobbles from 686,275 listeners: not as many plays as 30 Seconds’ #1, but far more fans.
Both artists are heavy hitters on Last.fm, but Kanye wins it: overall he’s got 67,376,744 plays from 2,098,990 listeners, compared to 30 Seconds to Mars’ 52,221,553 plays from 1,291,934 listeners. With an average of 32.1 listens per Kanye West fan compared to 40.4 from 30 Seconds’ listeners, it seems they’re loved in different ways – find out if Kanye’s fifth album drop on Nov 22 brings him more fan devotion.
