“I throw my hands up in the air sometimes/Saying AYO/Gotta let go/I wanna celebrate and live my life/Saying AYO/Baby, let’s go.” We’re not sure what AYO stands for; maybe it’s Awesome Young Onlookers or Aren’t You Outrageous. Whatever AYO stands for, a lot of Awesome Young Onlookers were AYO’ing it up last night.

“Dynamite” Don Juan, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taio Cruz[/lastfm], played Hollywood’s Cinespace last night for a secret and totally free MySpace show. Obviously, there were tons of “hands in the air,” waving them, well, to quote another song…like they just don’t care. Because when it’s Saturday night in Hollywood, hot girls are stumbling in stilettos, and Taio Cruz is so close he could be one of your crew…all you care about is the party!

First things first, if you’ve never been to one of MySpace’s Secret Shows, you need to make your way to one as soon as humanly possible. Why? MySpace always books fabulous artists, they give away posters and other goodies, the ambiance is intimate, and the shows are free. When else can you say you’ve seen a Billboard Top 40 artist for free, during a coveted Saturday night-time slot, at a trendy venue and on the most iconic street in the world?

The Billboard Top 40 artist in question is a pop artist with the croontastic-ness of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Akon[/lastfm] and the affability of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Usher[/lastfm], but the swagger of a Rokstarr, British [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taio Cruz[/lastfm].

Cruz came on stage wearing all black everything from his top to his toes, but while he donned the garb of a stoic rock star, his smile was so warm and sincere, it was the epitome of what represents a perfect pop song.

The set started with radio hit “Break Your Heart,” Cruz’ anthem to lovin’ them and leavin’ them…with fair warning, of course. If Cruz has a “problem with misbehavin’,” we can’t tell. He has the air of a perfect gentleman, which he (ironically) showed off in his next song of the set, “Falling In Love.” He repeats over and over that it’s a “great day for falling in love” right after he says he will only break our hearts. That is so typical man, man.

We see what you are doing here, Taio Cruz. After you break our heart and make us fall in love, you ask us for a “Dirty Picture.” Cruz did “Dirty Picture” sans crazy [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ke$ha[/lastfm]. While he mentioned that he recorded this song with a “beautiful woman,” Cruz was accompanied by the not-so-beautiful backing track of Ke$ha’s voice. While we love this song, it was pretty creepy to have Ke$ha’s voice there and no Ke$ha. That girl just brings the dirty to the whole picture.

For his fourth song, Cruz performed “Higher” which also features [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kylie Minogue[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Travie McCoy[/lastfm]. By this time, the audience was restless and screaming out, “Dynamite! Dynamite!” Cruz joked that he wasn’t “singing that song tonight” and teased “I’m gonna do one more song for you guys, but I’m not sure what song you want me to do.” When he had made the audience relentlessly anticipatory, Cruz finally got everyone’s hands in the air with “Dynamite.”

And maybe, just maybe, the night ended with a couple ecstatic cries of “AYO.” Or–at least–we hope so.
