AMP Radio Previews Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1!
I got the chance to hang out with some Harry Potter-obsessed AMP Radio winners and they agree that the film totally lives up to all the hype.
Check out my review after the jump. I’ll try to keep it vague for those who want to be surprised, but if you don’t like spoilers, consider yourself forewarned!
You can listen to my review on the morning show with Carson Daly or read my thoughts below:
I have to say the film is visually stunning. The cinematographer totally deserves an Oscar nomination. The special effects were extremely life-like, which is important when you have characters that are completely CGI, like Dobby.
Although the film takes on a darker tone, there are still lots of laughs, mainly from the Weasley clan. Expect all the girls to scream with joy when Harry takes off his shirt to jump in an ice cold lake. It’ll happen, I promise. It’s inevitable.
There was only one scene that seemed to divide the crowd. The moment when Ron is attempting to destroy one of the Horcruxes is not depicted the same way as it is written in the book and the Potter-afficianados either loved it or hated it.
A word of advice: if you haven’t read the books or watched the movies lately, do your homework and brush up on your Harry Potter trivia. The movie doesn’t spend a lot of time catching you up, so newbies who are unfamiliar with the series may leave the theater completely confused! Here’s the cheat sheet I used!
The film is almost 2 and a half hours long, but it feels so much shorter than that. It’s non-stop action. You barely get a chance to take a breath and then it’s over! The last scene in particular got a huge reaction from the audience.
If you’re a true Harry Potter fan, you won’t leave disappointed. I’ve already started a countdown until the premiere of Part 2! (It’s 239 more days, if you’re interested!)
For those of you who didn’t get to see the movie with us, it officially opens at midnight on Friday morning. And to tide you over until then, here’s the trailer!
