If, for some strange reason, you doubted [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm]’s ability to reach across genres, the producer/emcee’s new album has been award a perfect score by Pitchfork, one of the top indie music sites in the world!
“With his music and persona both marked by a flawed honesty, Kanye’s man-myth dichotomy is at once modern and truly classic,” Pitchfork critic Ryan Dombal writes. He calls the album, “a blast of surreal pop excess that few artists are capable of creating, or even willing to attempt.”
The last new disc to receive a perfect 10 from Pitchfork was [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Wilco[/lastfm]’s alt-country classic Whiskey Tango Foxtrot in 2002. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of only 12 new albums to receive a perfect rating in Pitchfork’s existence.
The site is much more likely to give that score to reissued classics. The only other hip-hop albums to receive the perfect score are Paul’s Boutique by the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beastie Boys[/lastfm] and Entroducing by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]DJ Shadow[/lastfm].
Of course, they’re a little late to the game; we told you how awesome this record was last week.
Have you picked up your copy yet? Is it a perfect 10 in your book?
