Missed the VH1 Divas Salute The Troops? The show included patriotic pop powerhouses like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Keri Hilson[/lastfm]. Of course, Perry was decked out in different versions of “americana” including the American flag (wait, is that legal?), camouflage, and old-school pin-up style uniforms. Minaj thought her hair needed to be aerodynamic and Hilson just looked gorgeous as usual.
This is definitely one of the best live performances we’ve seen by all three of this artists and it included one of our favorite diva anthems–[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cyndi Lauper[/lastfm]’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!”
Hosted by Kathy Griffin at the Marina Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Divas Salute The Troops saw some of our favorite AMP artists entertaining the troops the best way the know how–by belting out songs in teeny, tiny get-ups.
For “California Gurls,” Katy Perry parachuted on to the stage, giving a whole new meaning to the lyric “Boys, break their necks.” Eeek!
Perry then sexed it up for “Teenage Dream,” provocatively saying to the mostly-young men in the audience, “Do we have any pilots here that would like to fly with me? I’d like to take a ride after the show…on a plane.”
Then she does classic Katy, “Hot ‘N Cold.” What’s up with her weird, Southern-ish street accent?
Perry, Keri Hilson and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sugarland[/lastfm]’s Jennifer Nettles sing a super cute version of The Andrews Sisters’ “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”
Katy and Nicki Minaj team up for a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and we get to hear Minaj sing! Her singing voice is amazing. She should sing more often. She might even sing better than Perry. But don’t tell anyone we said that.
Taking a break from shocking us with her killer singing voice, Minaj does her current single “Right Thru Me.”
The show ended with Katy Perry channeling her best Jessica Rabbit with her hit single, “Firework.”
