Ratings for the FOX juggernaut “American Idol” sagged tremendously last season, and so the producers went with starpower in its new judge selections. But along with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Steven Tyler[/lastfm], the show is also adding some youth to its corps, bringing on several of today’s hottest hitmakers as mentors and advisers to the would-be stars.

Writers and producers like Tricky Stewart ( best known for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Bieber[/lastfm]’s “Baby” and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rihanna[/lastfm]’s “Umbrella”), Alex da Kid ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rihanna[/lastfm]’s “Love the Way You Lie,” [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]B.o.B[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Hayley Williams[/lastfm]’ “Airplanes”), and Rodney Jerkins ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyoncé[/lastfm]’s “Telephone”) are just some of the hitmakers who will be advising contestants behind the scenes.

In addition, this year’s contestants will, along with singing, also have to make music videos and take part in elaborate, over-the-top award-show style production numbers.

Hopefully, those production numbers go better than this one did:
