File this story in bummer of the day! The adorable rocker couple, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Pete Wentz[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ashlee Simpson[/lastfm], have filed for divorce. There’s lots of rumors about why the two split up, but we’ve got the facts right here for you!

AMP Radio’s Carson Daly and gossip guru Perez Hilton discussed the breaking news earlier this morning:

Ashlee, the younger sister of pop star [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jessica Simpson[/lastfm], filed the divorce papers this morning in LA Superior Court. The documents cite “irreconciable differences” as the cause of the split. She’s requesting joint legal custody and primary phsyical custody of their two-year-old son, Bronx.

One interesting observation? She’s asking for spousal support from the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Fall Out Boy[/lastfm] bassist, even though she has a fairly sizable fortune herself.

The couple released a joint statement shortly after news of the divorce broke:

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.

Ashlee and Pete married in May of 2008 and TMZ is reporting that they did not sign a prenup.

Well that’s just depressing! Here’s hoping the two can find ‘L.O.V.E.’ again in the future!
