The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards opened with a tribute to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm]. The medley of songs were intended as a “Valentine” to the Queen of Soul. The last few months have been trying for Franklin but she recently claimed her medical issues were “resolved.”

GRAMMY winners [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Yolanda Adams[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Martina McBride[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Hudson[/lastfm] performed along with GRAMMY-nominated Florence Welch of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Florence and the Machine[/lastfm].

The five women started out with “Natural Woman.Aguilera covered “Ain’t No Way,” McBride sang “Until You Come Back To Me,” Florence sang “Think,” Hudson sang “Respect,” and Adams sang “Spirit in the Dark.” The women wrapped up the medley with “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.”

The performance was followed with a standing ovation and a pre-recorded video of Aretha Franklin who shared thanks and sent a message of love.
