As if appearing in an egg and winning 3 Grammys wasn’t enough, last night [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] owned the airwaves in an interview on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper!
Cooper conducted the interview over several weeks to find out what drives the 24-year-old popstar…
[pullquote quote=”You have the freedom to pull the superstar out of yourself that you were born to be. We are all born superstars. ” credit=”Lady Gaga”]
For Gaga, it’s all about the sociology of fame. She’s studied some of the most successful artists in history to figure out what works and what doesn’t.
One of my greatest artworks is the art of fame. I’m a master of the art of fame…I’m a true academic when it comes to music and when it comes to my style, my fashion. There’s always some sort of a story or some concept I’m telling.
The interview took on a more serious tone when the popstar addressed the pressure to be perfect:
They wanna see me fail, they wanna see me fall on stage, they wanna see me vomiting out of a nightclub. I mean, isn’t that the age that we live in? That we wanna see people who have it all lose it all? I mean, it’s dramatic. And yet I just am not like that on my own time. I’m not a vomit-in-the-club kind of girl.
Much of Lady Gaga’s music speaks to those who feel out of place or disenfranchised by the world around them. One of the interview’s suprising moments was Gaga’s confession that she felt the same way growing up in New York as Stefani Germanotta. In fact, she felt self-conscious until she created the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] persona that she goes by today:
I was able to leave such a massive amount of insecurities behind me by getting rid of that name in a way. And I still am very insecure in so many ways. But I wish I could give that gift to all my fans. You have the freedom to pull the superstar out of yourself that you were born to be. We are all born superstars.
