Today Last.fm Trends looks at both artists’ scrobbles to see how they’re doing currently, and what it’ll take for them to achieve a smash.
R. Kelly released Love Letter last year, and its title track is placed at #12 on his six-month charts, counting 20,916 scrobbles from 6,056 listeners. It’s his older tracks however that still have the most traction for fans, party favorite “Ignition (Remix)” arriving in 2003.
Snoop’s just released Doggumentary and is riding its success: “Wet” has 24,720 scrobbles from 5,648 listeners as the first single from the album, pipping R. Kelly’s new tracks on plays but not fans. If “Platinum” can join one artist’s wider appeal to the other’s catchiness, it should be an even bigger hit.
This won’t be the first time that the artists have appeared together: in 2006 “That’s That” appeared on Snoop’s Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and has gained 148,173 scrobbles from 29,344 listeners. “Platinum” counts 2,745 scrobbles from 1,323 listeners in its first week of album release, so we’ll keep an eye on its rise.
