**UPDATE: AUDITIONS ARE CLOSED**

Gorgeous golden-haired Aussie supermodel, Elle Macpherson, will get to show off her prowess as not only a model, but as an ambitious business woman in the upcoming reality television show by NBC, Electus, and Magical Elves called Fashion Star.

Twelve unknown designers will vie for the opportunity to win a multi-million dollar contract to sell their clothes in well-known American retail stores. As an extra reward, viewers will get to purchase that week’s winning design in stores and online the very next day.

Want to know more about Fashion Star or are you the savvy fashion-focused businessperson America needs to corner the niche on stylish savings? Get the info for the open Los Angeles casting call which takes place this Sunday at the Art Institute of California Los Angeles!

Let’s face it: How many people do you remember from some of the more “popular” fashion designer shows? You might know them as a television personality, but have you purchased any of their couture, sometimes-impractical clothing? Probably not.[pullquote quote=”Brands have become expressions of communities and statements of identity.” credit=”Paul Telegady”]

Fashion Star is different. Instead of getting to love (and admittedly sometimes hate) designers and their style sensibilities, Fashion Star is all about the business and the brand. The show will utilize of-the-minute interactive consumer feedback and interactivity with up-and-coming designers challenged to work with all different categories of fashion.

Contestants will get to have the beautiful Elle Macpherson has their mentor. She is not only know for her long, bronzed limbs and effervescent smile, but for her success as a fashion-oriented business woman and as the 2010 host of Britian’s Next Top Model. While most international Top Model hosts are hard-worn taskmasters, Macpherson showed herself to be stern, but warm-hearted and compassionate–the perfect mix for the nervous, fledgling designer.

The rest of the judging panel will consist of both fashion designers and buyers, all of them having to make split-second decisions on who they would like to create the next big trend in their stores and using their own collateral to purchase the items of the up-and-coming designers–much like the real fashion world.

Instead of just admiring the work of the designers at the end of each episode, American viewers will get to immediately purchase the winning designs. With this model, all designers who win weekly challenges are essentially show winners.[pullquote quote=”The stakes are higher than any other competitive reality show, as ‘Fashion Star’ pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to launch a major national brand.” credit=”Ben Silverman”]

Of course, Fashion Star will bring a little drama from putting people together of disparate backgrounds. Anyone from the stay-at-home mother who loves to sew to the starry-eyed fashion school graduate will get the opportunity to show America their entrepreneurial and design skills.

Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios, said:

Brands have become expressions of communities and statements of identity. Polo, Kate Spade, Uggs, Ray Ban and Victoria’s Secret are all great examples of brands that have popped and reflect an entire lifestyle beyond just articles of clothing. This country is overflowing with incredibly talented designers from all walks of life who are waiting to be discovered. Who better to host then Elle Macpherson — her impeccable fashion sense and 30 years of experience building her eponymous brand are tremendous assets to the show and the designers.

Ben Silverman (Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning producer and creator and executive producer of “The Biggest Loser”), CEO and founder of Electus agreed, saying:

We are excited to team up with NBC to discover and develop the next major fashion brand for retailers around the country and deliver the next breakout television show for an audience that is increasingly obsessed with fashion. The stakes are higher than any other competitive reality show, as ‘Fashion Star’ pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to launch a major national brand.
