Alicia Keys - Essence Magazine

Singer Alicia Keys has finally come out of hiding since her marriage to super producer Swizz Beatz by gracing the cover of the June issue of Essence Magazine.

In the magazine, the singer opens up about her music, love life and the joys of being a new mother. Alicia also announced the 10^th anniversary re-release of a deluxe edition of her debut album Songs In A Minor.

On love:

Falling in love is such a force, but this is a whole other level of magic. I was very closed for a long time. But I feel so open now. To feel open like this means you’ve found the center in yourself. You’re not hiding; you’re not worried about anything. Everything’s going to be just fine.

On being a mother:

It’s amazing…the best thing in the whole wide world. I know it sounds cliché, but that is how I feel about being a mother.

On balancing her personal and work life:

With more experienced, I’ve learned that it is possible to do, but the choices I’ve been making  are more direct, whereas before when I first  started I wanted to do as much as possible.  Now I’m really considerate as to what I choose to do.

On the re-release of a deluxe edition of Songs In A minor:

It’s a true passion and love project. It’s a beautiful rebirth that leads me to do music in this industry for the next 100 years.
