36-year-old popstar Stacy Ann Ferguson (or [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Fergie[/lastfm]) used to be my hero in the late ’80s when she was the blonde-haired beauty with the big curls and the even bigger voice on the child musical show Kids Incorporated. It might even be argued that Fergie from Kids Incorporated days inspired me to want to work in music because I wanted to be a character on the show and made my parents enroll me in every singing, dance, and instrumental class we could afford.
After reminiscing on this, I decided to cull together my 5 Favorite Fergie Moments from Kids Incorporated and compare it with her latest Peas song “Just Can’t Get Enough.”
“Tell It To My Heart”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Dayne[/lastfm]
Still one of my favorite songs from the ’80s, Fergie’s rich alto voice was made for this song. When I karaoke “Tell It To My Heart,” sometimes I imagine I am wearing pastel patterned pants and a side barrette. I know. My life is really exciting/pitiful.
“Straight Up”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paula Abdul[/lastfm]
I made my mom get me an identical hot pink and black short outfit so I could sing this at my second grade talent show. And then I did the exact same choreographed dance. I got first place. Obviously.
“So Emotional”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Whitney Houston[/lastfm]
This was the time when Fergie’s voice was at its very best. And those were the magic pale pink hoop earrings that made me throw a temper tantrum at the mall until my mom let me get my ears pierced.
“Say You, Say Me”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lionel Richie[/lastfm]
This video is really, really creepy. The clown twirling a broom and tiny little Fergie. It made me afraid of clowns forever.
“Let’s Hear It For The Boy”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Deniece Williams[/lastfm]
My family bought a beige Oldsmobile and it came with a mixtape that had the original version of this song on it. So when Fergie sang this on Kids Incorporated, I felt really cool that I already knew all the words.
“Just Can’t Get Enough”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Black Eyed Peas[/lastfm]
Fergie in her current incarnation. Still as cute as Kids Incorporated-era Fergie despite the hardships of her post child star life? Definitely!
