They say men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but sometimes it seems like celebrities hail from a whole other universe!
Pop stars like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm] make millions of dollars, go to the world’s most fabulous parties and answer to a completely different set of rules than us regular folk.
In order to cope with this other-worldly existence, some of our favorite AMP Radio artists create alter egos so they can feel more comfortable expressing the more eccentric aspects of their big personalities.
But who’s the craziest of them all? Check out our list and vote!
10. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] — Jo Calderone & Yuyi the Mermaid
About a week ago, Gaga revealed that her mermaid alter-ego, Yuyi, may be appearing in her music video for “You And I,” but this isn’t the first time she’s played around with alternate personalities.
Mother Monster came out with her first alter ego last year on the cover of Japan’s Vogue Hommes.
What surprised us most of all was that her other self was a man!
She kept the stunt pretty well-concealed; most people didn’t even realize it was her for a couple of weeks.
In an interview with Vogue, a reporter asked Jo about his relationship with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm]:
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s f***ing beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were “born this way.” I took her out after. The rest is private.
Ooh la la! Check out photos from the magazine spread below.

9. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm] — T.I.P.
Rapper [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm] released an entire album based upon the struggle between the good and evil inside of him.
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm] represents the man he is today, a designer-wearing millionaire who has experienced worldwide success, whereas T.I.P. is a young thug with a criminal past.
The key is that despite the hard time he’s spent in prison, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm] knows he couldn’t have achieved what he has today without T.I.P.
There’s not nobody out there doing what I do as well as I do it, so I see myself as worthy competition for myself.Vodpod videos no longer available.

8. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Britney Spears[/lastfm] — Mona Lisa
Who knew Brit Brit was also part of the alter ego club? We sure didn’t!
After a little bit of research, we got to the bottom of this secret life. She told TRL:
Whenever I feel like being mean or possibly bossing people around to get stuff right, it’s kinda easier to be called ‘Mona Lisa’ instead of Britney.
And Mona Lisa isn’t just a state of mind, Britney even recorded a song with the same name, but it was never officially released.
7. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Miley Cyrus[/lastfm] — Hannah Montana
Miss Miley made millions off her alter-ego, Hannah Montana.
Not only did she star on the Disney Channel TV show, she also released a movie and an album based on the struggle to decide who she really wanted to be.
These days, Miley just “can’t be tamed,” but we still wax nostalgic over her blonde wig!
6. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mariah Carey[/lastfm] — Mimi
When Mariah released her album, The Emancipation of Mimi, everyone just assumed she was using it as an outlet to express her dual-personality.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Mariah maintains that Mimi is more of a nickname rather than an entirely different persona.
It’s not like Mimi is some alter ego or character, but really more the true person as opposed to the celebrity. It’s a very personal nickname. Only people who are really close to me use it.
Nickname or not, Mariah showed off her more intimate side in the video for “We Belong Together.”
5. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] — Slim Shady
So we’ve got [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm], the rapper. Marshall Mathers, the actual man. And Slim Shady, the alter ego.
Phew! It’s hard to keep up with that sometimes!
The rap superstar claims he uses his alter ego to preserve an air of mystery about who he really is.
As an artist, you wanna keep a certain mystique. I don’t ever want everybody to know everything that I’m joking about and serious about.
That’s the fun with creating and doing music — leaving that mystique for people’s imaginations so they can get what they wanna get out of it. I guess.
4. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm] — Roman Zolanski, Barbie, Dexter…
This reigning queen of rap royalty has SO many alter egos, we’re beginning to worry about her mental stability!
She’s got Roman, Barbie, Dexter, Cookie, Rosa…the list goes on and on!
Personally, we have a soft spot for Roman, who appeared in “Bottoms Up” with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Trey Songz[/lastfm].
The singer claims Roman is her “evil twin” who only appears when Nicki gets angry, so just don’t get on her bad side!
3. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm] — Sasha Fierce
Who can forget the fabulous uber-diva Sasha Fierce?
She’s [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm]’s fearless onstage alter ego. Bey told V magazine:
When I’m onstage I’m aggressive and strong and not afraid of my sexuality. The tone of my voice gets different, and I’m fearless. I’m just a different person.
It’s a way for me to differentiate what I do onstage from who I really am – It’s a way for me to not lose myself, to keep my life in perspective, because it’s really hard sometimes to stay on earth when you’re a celebrity.
Well, we’re sold on Sasha as long as she keeps bringing the hits like “Single Ladies!”

2. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Bieber[/lastfm] — Shawty Mane
The Biebs unveiled his alter ego on Twitter last October:
But unlike other artists, JB uses Shawty Mane to explore a whole other genre of music — rap.
Can Justin…excuse me, Shawty spit rhymes with the best of them? Take a look for yourself!
1. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm] — Kathy Beth Terry
Our personal favorite alter ego here at AMP Radio is also one of the newest to step out on the scene.
The adorably nerdy Kathy Beth Terry appeared in Katy’s hilarious throwback music video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
Not too shabby for a 13-year-old whose mom only lets her shop at Mervyn’s!
