If we had it our way, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Javier Colon[/lastfm] would sing us to sleep every night!
Each week on NBC’s The Voice, he knocked our socks off with his out-of-this-world vocals.
Today, he reunited with Voice and AMP morning show host Carson Daly to explain how his life has changed since the show’s finale and perform his current single live on-air!

Even though The Voice wrapped up about a month ago, life hasn’t slowed down for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Javier Colon[/lastfm].
But did you know that he almost didn’t even try out for the show?
I had a cold. I woke up a couple days before the New York audition. I wasn’t feeling great. I was like, “You know what. I can’t go.” And I talked to my brother who knew my situation and knew that I only had like 5-6 shows on the books over the course of the next 5 months. I’m married and I have two beautiful baby girls. You know, I needed to figure out a way to bring home some income.
Thankfully for Javier (and all of us), he went through with it and got all four coaches to turn around their chairs during the blind auditions.
He chose to team up with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adam Levine[/lastfm] and despite the wide range of talent on the panel, he never regretted his decision:
He [Adam Levine] is just the nicest, most genuine guy. And you can tell by his posture, like before you announced my name, he really, really wanted me to win.
Season 1 of The Voice is over and done with, but the two still keep in touch. In fact, Adam brought him up on stage during [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Maroon 5[/lastfm]’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl to sing [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]’s “Man In the Mirror.”
But this isn’t Javier’s first time in the spotlight. Back in 2002, he signed with Capitol Records and scored a Billboard Hot 100 hit with his single, “Crazy.”
After a few years, his career seemed to stall and he decided to go independent.
I’m coming from a position where, you know, I’ve been in the business. I’ve had people tell me that things are great and then things, you know, don’t turn out that way. So I always come from a place of being very guarded.
Ever since he stepped on the stage of The Voice, Javier caught everyone’s attention with his incredible performances and his ever-present hat!
It’s been my thing for a long time. I threw it off in the middle of “Fix You” for the first time. I was getting a lot of stuff on YouTube of people saying, “What’s wrong with his head? Why won’t he take his hat off?” And I’m like, there’s nothing wrong with my head! I like to wear a hat, but fine, you want to see my head? Here’s my head.Vodpod videos no longer available.

As part of his prize, Javier won a recording contract and $100,000, but that doesn’t mean that he’s become a big spender.
I went to the Apple store yesterday and bought like another charger and some other stuff and I felt bad! I’ve not been tempted at all. Not one time have I felt an urge to get something stupid. It’s weird.
Currently, he’s on tour with his fellow contestants and his solo album is scheduled for a November 2011 release.
We’ve been working pretty hard. I’ve been doing lots of double sessions in the studio. We’ve been doing a lot of stuff, which is good. My attitude is “bring it.” You know, whatever I have to do to make this successful and to make this moving in the right direction, I’m all for it.
With a voice like Javier’s, he can explore all sorts of genres and he told Carson what we can expect to hear from him in the future:
Our focus is on making good songs. I guess it would technically be in a more pop-leaning direction as opposed to R&B-leaning. You know, I am a singer-songwriter. That’s who I am to the core.
