Even though her music video for “You And I” ended up leaking a couple days early on the web, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] still trekked out to NYC for the television premiere and an exclusive interview with MTV Thursday evening.

All week long, the network was hyping up the event, teasing that Mother Monster was going to make a big VMA announcement.

We didn’t have a clue what to expect. Would she be taking part in the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Britney Spears[/lastfm] tribute?

Even AMP Radio buddy Perez Hilton tried to make a guess, thinking she might be hosting the whole shebang.

Turns out we were all wrong!

[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] announced that she will be kicking off the show on August 28th and she revealed it in a dramatic fashion!

Gaga nearly shut down Times Square during her appearance.

Halfway through the interview, they had to close the shades because the crowd outside was getting too rowdy!

But before they were able to do so, the devoted Little Monsters on the streets got to reveal Gaga’s big news.

This will be the second time Mother Monster takes on the VMA stage.

She made huge headlines in 2009 for her bloody rendition of “Paparazzi.”

In honor of the big day, MTV released an extended promo for her highly-anticipated performance.
