Watch Video For Lloyd’s ‘Dedication To My Ex’ (Miss That)
With his late ’50s-early ’60s retro-soul yowl (often likened to[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] Michael Jackson[/lastfm]), the vintage dance-funk backbeat, awesome verses dropped by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Andre 3000[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lloyd[/lastfm]‘s clean edit of “Dedication To My Ex (Miss That)” is less libido-fueled than just a fun tune about a love lost.
However, in his video for the song, Lloyd makes sure we don’t miss the full (read: unedited) version of the word “lovin’” by turning his “freaky” ex-girlfriend into a leather-clad black cat on the prowl, slinking mischievously from Lloyd’s garage–where a funk-soul band practice is going on–to the garage across the street–where she lounges in “feline” form while a 1950s-style rockabilly band plays.
Also featured: a rapping cat. Yes, literally rapping –thanks to the wonders of modern technology.
The retro styling is cute; the concept of the battling bands is fun; the sex-crazed little “kitten” wandering the streets while girls go-go dance around her is a fun, obvious “double entendre” for the original wording of the song.
But, for us, the best part of the video? Andre 3000 as a rapping tomcat.
Don’t see the other cat references? Here’s Lloyd’s promiscuous ex-girlfriend crouching like a cat next to a car.
Here she is in her feline form, chilling with the Beats by Dre wearing rockabilly crew.
We think this video is the cat’s meow.
