[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Flo Rida[/lastfm] and I go waaaaay back. OK, not really. We met a couple times and the dude is always nice. And LARGE, did I mention that? He could pick me up and toss me across the room with little effort, but good thing he’s nice like I just mentioned.
Anyway, none of what I’ve said so far talks about the first single off of his next album, sampling the likes of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Etta James[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Avicii[/lastfm].
Flo Rida’s next album will be the second half to his last album, Only One Flo (Part 1). The hit “Club Can’t Handle Me” was on that. He actually stopped by the Bud Light Lime Lounge to hand me a copy of the first CD.
Now he’s released the first single from his upcoming album and when I heard that this song samples both blues/jazz singer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Etta James[/lastfm] AND DJ/producer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Avicii[/lastfm] it sort of blew my mind.
I adore the fact that Etta croons over Avicii’s dance beat. Adding Flo Rida’s rhymes makes this song not a clash, but a nice mesh of pop culture and sounds. A sign of the times, really.
There’s also a new trend that artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cee-Lo [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lloyd[/lastfm] joined in on–lyric videos before the actual videos have been shot. Enjoy singing along to “Good Feeling” my Playlist pick of the week.
