[AMP Exclusive] Carson Daly: Dev Dishes On Her Debut Album & Growing Baby Bump!

Just a few weeks ago, pop artist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] threw us all for a loop when she announced out of the blue via Twitter that she was expecting a little bundle of joy.

It came as a big surprise considering you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone else who’s had more a whirlwind year, from her collaboration with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Far East Movement[/lastfm] on “Like A G6,” all the way to the upcoming release of her very first album.

This morning, Carson got [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] on the AMP phone line to find out how getting engaged and pregnant has impacted her career and more importantly, her music.

After the breakout year [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm]’s experienced, you might think that getting pregnant so early in her career could prove problematic, but she couldn’t be more thrilled for the challenge:

Everybody thinks that I would’ve been sort of upset, like you said because everything’s popping up right now with me and my career. But I was actually really excited and I think that being pregnant and being a soon-to-be mother has put me in such a good mindset. I’m in such a good place right now.

Even her fiance, Jimmy, is getting into the baby state of mind!

He’s absolutely amazing. He figures out all the doctor’s appointments. They know him by name there before they knew me, actually!

It was only just a year ago when [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] first appeared on our radar.

She got her first big break when she sang the hook to “Like A G6,” but it’s her latest track, “In The Dark,” that has turned out to be a smash hit.

The single is currently sitting at #6 on Billboard’s Dance/Club chart and slowly conquering the Hot 100 at the 18th spot.

It was one of the first songs we made in Costa Rica when we were out there recording for the album. And just to see 9 months later it doing so well is really cool.

It’s hard to believe with all this success that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] still hasn’t released a solo album!

That all changes on November 1st when The Night The Sun Came Up goes on sale. It was originally scheduled to drop earlier this month, but the “Bass Down Low” singer was eager to add a few more finishing touches.

We moved it back because I added more music. I was just recently in the studio again with The Cataracs these past couple weeks.

So what can fans expect from The Night The Sun Came Up? For her first solo effort, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] stuck to what she does best, electro-pop club hits.

[pullquote quote=”I always knew that my music would sort of grow, obviously, as I grow and mature, but now I’m excited. I really think the next album is going to be really beautiful and hopefully will be even more personal than this first one.” credit=”Dev”]

As far as this debut album, there’s personal songs, but yeah, it’s sort of very electronic-based being that you know, it’s all laid over beats and stuff like that.

But she seemed even more excited to tell Carson about how motherhood will change the way she makes music in the future.

I always knew that my music would sort of grow, obviously, as I grow and mature, but now I’m excited. I really think the next album is going to be really beautiful and hopefully will be even more personal than this first one.

And if you think getting preggers has slowed the 22-year-old down, think again! The singer has been keeping busy in order to take some much needed time off once the baby arrives.

This past couple months, I shot 6 music videos, so I have new material to be putting out on the internet…And then I have a little secret thing I’m going to do with the album…I did have to cancel my shows, but I am planning on coming back and doing a bigger tour in the spring and hopefully just dropping more music until then because I can still kind of record. I just can’t really be doing shows.

Phew! All you [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm] fans can rest easy now because it looks like she won’t be stopping anytime soon!
