It’s finally Friday and we are SO ready for the weekend to begin so we can let loose!
And it seems like we’ve found the perfect truck this week to get the party started.
The lovely people of Shrimp Pimp rolled up to the AMP studios this morning to show us a good time, seafood-style!
Neil’s truck was a long time coming. He started out as a restaurateur in NYC working under prestigious chefs such as Mario Batali.
It was out east where he learned all about the seafood trade.
But eventually, he wanted to start working more normal hours so he could start a family. He and wife packed up and moved to California where he started a construction company.
The construction industry was hit pretty hard by the recession and it eventually closed down. But it wasn’t all bad news:
I was in a way happy, I was never able to shake the bug of working with food, and loved the street food movement that was starting.
It seemed like perfect timing to launch a truck and he did just that in fall of 2010.
Shrimp Pimp focuses in dishes that feature shrimp and other seafood, but it’s their fusion of many world flavors that makes them one-of-kind.
In case you were wondering, the truck uses only highest grade sustainable shrimp, seafood and sashimi-grade tuna. In fact, they get their shrimp from the only imported farm-raised shrimp purveyor deemed sustainable by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
All the hard work seems to be paying off. Zagat named Shrimp Pimp one of the top 3 food trucks in Los Angeles alongside Kogi and Grill ‘em All.
And that name? Neil admits that “Shrimp Pimp” was the result of binge drinking!
We were more than willing to share all this awesome food, so Carson sent out the truck to feed the office of one very lucky listener.
