Jay and ‘Ye have been back and forth with this Watch The Throne Tour. I hope this time they really mean it! A second show has been added to the LA tour dates.
[photogallerylink id=84813 align=left][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm]’s collaborative effort, Watch The Throne was released in early August to much fanfare and critical approval. The two call themselves [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Throne[/lastfm] and had first listed a 24 tour date show with dual shows in LA, Chicago and New Jersey. Quickly after releasing the dates, however, the duo amended the show dates and stops.
The second list moved the tour back a month and took out the dual shows the aforementioned cities as well as some others.
[photogallerylink id=42666 align=left]Then very recently, The Throne, released their third, and hopefully final tour date list. The Watch The Throne Tour will now kick off on October 28th at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. I would bet money that we get to hear a live version of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm]’s brand new remix of Ni*** In Paris, ’cause you know he’s going to be there!
Also added are two Madison Square Garden dates, in lieu of the New Jersey stops it seems. And a second Los Angeles show at the Staples Center on December 13th.
You are now watching the throne…
Here’s “Otis” by The Throne!
It can be argued at this point that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm]’s current Speak Now tour is way more pop and hip-hop than country music. It seems every time she hits another city not only would she perform a medley of her acoustic versions of pop hits, but more often then not she’d just bring out the original artist and perform it with them!
[photogallerylink id=46087 align=left]So with so many duets, someone thought to ask which one was the best or was she most surprised by. With contenders like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Beiber[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Usher[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nelly[/lastfm], we knew the competition was stiff.
Turns out the King of The South is also the King of Taylor Swift Duets, that’s right performing with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I. [/lastfm]had Taylor feeling the most butterflies.
Just days after being released from State custody, Tip got a call from Taylor, “Well, I called T.I. the night before the show, so I felt like it’s such short notice that [he wouldn’t do it with me], and he’s just like, ‘Hey, yeah, sure,’ “ she recalled.
“And it was just amazing. I was so excited ’cause I’m such a fan and I thought, ‘This is such short notice, this is so ridiculous’ that I’m asking him to do this the night before. And he’s like, ‘I’ll be there,’ ” she continued. “And he showed up for sound check and we were all just so star-struck.”
The two performed “Live Your Life” in front of a packed Atlanta arena. Being the hip-hop head that Taylor is, this moment probably will stay with her for quite a while, “I’m a huge hip-hop fan, and it’s been so amazing to have so many incredible artists come out and to get to sing the hooks on their songs that I’ve been blasting in my car for the last couple years,” Taylor continued, “It’s been awesome. I couldn’t have asked for more amazing special guests on this tour, and we’re not finished yet.”
Who could be next? [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chris Brown[/lastfm]? [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm]? [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]B.o.B.[/lastfm]? I’m so curious! Just tell us, Taylor. You know we will find out sooner or later!
Sounds like a real love story… “Love Story” By Taylor Swift
Life has been moving pretty fast for Mr. Aubrey Drake Graham, better known by just his stage name, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Drake[/lastfm], ever since he came on the scene with his hot mixtape So Far Gone, featuring Young Money President, [lastfm link_type=””]Lil Wayne[/lastfm].
In fact stardom has been so trying on the 23-year-old Toronto MC, it’s become the basis for his second album, Take Care, “The album is actually a story,” Drake told reporters in New York last week for his “Saturday Night Live” appearance.
The basis, he tells us, is based on the world he created in his song “Houstatlantavegas,” which is featured on his hit mixtape, So Far Gone. “It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside and I used to be like, ‘Man that looks crazy,’ “ he told us. “All those strip clubs and all those nightclubs and the drinks and the girls and the fame.”
[photogallerylink id=113463 align=left]And through his rhymes that world becme real to him, both in his head and eventually in real life, in a poetic art-imitating-life type scenario, “I used to stare at this world through a glass window and, like, two to three years later, I become a king in that world,” he said.
One look at the album cover and its clear Drake at least feels ambivalent towards his success and fame. He is sitting, with 80’s hip hop styled gold chains wrapped around his neck, head down, pensive, concerned, maybe. The point is he is not participating in the bravado present in most hip hop today and it makes you think: Is he ok?
Drake revealed that its his character from this song featured on the cover, “That’s who’s sitting on that album cover, that kid that’s just somehow gone from his mom’s basement in Toronto to becoming a king,” he explained of the cover. “That’s what that album cover is about and there is a lot of deep thought involved in that ’cause you can go crazy doing this.”
Thankfully, Drake is at least conscious that the music game can steal your sanity, and while its his daily life to be famous, he’s been able to keep the crazy at bay, mostly. “I’m immersed in that lifestyle, but I’m not gonna let it consume me though,” he told reporters. “That’s what the album is pretty much about, just staying sane, but maybe, maybe not really though. You have to listen to it.”
