[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] has been a king in the music industry for the last two years, and in the music industry that two years can feel like a lifetime.
Don’t forget that in that two years Weezy F has sold millions of records and introduced the world to some of the hottest music acts around right now, like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Drake[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm], to name a few. All of this while headlining a year long tour that started almost as soon as he got out of jail. Oh, and he is still the President of Young Money. In fact the entire Young Money bullpen is constantly being primed for stardom; Weezy stays busy. Who will get put on next?
In fact, Wayne doesn’t look at his retirement as a loss, but instead focuses on the possibilities that the future brings, ”I feel like I’ll be a new me, and how good is that? To actually be opening a brand new door of life at 35? That’d be awesome. Totally awesome. I’m looking forward to it.”
And while, I’m not sure how I stand in the prison as rehabilitation debate, Wayne says his time in jail gave him, if anything, time to think clearly. ”It just helped me on my way, helped me with life. Cleared me up, cleaned me up, opened my eyes to things. I definitely thank God for that moment instead of looking at it as a problem or a bad situation. I needed it.” Perhaps is was this time that led him to these ideas of retiring and spending time with the family. Or maybe Weezy F is feeling more like a daddy then a baby these days.
I know it has to happen sometimes…or he could take a break and reconvene, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z [/lastfm]style, but if not, that will be a sad day for the hip-hop game, because he’s become an icon.
“I Am Not a Human Being” by Lil Wayne…fact!
[photogallerylink id=84813 align=left]When it comes to the music game, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm], while not the most likable character is simply a genius. One of the most critically acclaimed rappers ever, he continues to push limits and boundaries in music and challenge the status quo, and the best part is that he built a whole music label around that very idea.
G.O.O.D. Music, Kanye’s label, features artist, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Big Sean[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kid Cudi[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mos Def[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Common[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mr. Hudson[/lastfm] to name a few. These are some of the most talented and eclectic artists that we get to listen to and Kanye is bringing them all to you on one CD.
Over the summer 2010, Ye’ spent a lot of time online promoting his label, promising new music from his artists every week for months, he called it G.O.O.D. Friday and it was on point. Over that time he released previews of songs that eventually ended up on the album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, as well as other artists songs and collaborations that floated around the internet waiting for a moment just like this.
Fortunately, Kanye made the effort to collaborate with artists outside his label and t’s been reported that even songs featuring non-label artists may appear on the CD. That adds talented folks like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]J. Cole[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Keri Hilson[/lastfm] and revered recording artist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ryan Leslie[/lastfm].
According to Kanye’s tweet, Spring 2012 is the due date for the label album. No other info has been released yet, but Kanye’s parent label Def Jam Records confirmed his assertion with a
tweet of their own. This has the potential to be a great compilation of awesome music. I can’t wait for the final product!
One of the many G.O.O.D. collaborations: “All Of The Lights” by Kanye West ft. Kid Cudi
After some delay, T-Pain’s fourth and latest album rEVOLVEr has been finished, submitted, and now has a release date. Expect to see the many faces of Teddy P on December 6th.
The follow up to his platinum album Thr33 Ringz, which featured hits “Freeze” with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chris Brown[/lastfm] and slow jam “Can’t Believe It” featured [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm]. But even that success is not enough for T-Pain. In this album he hopes to show his development as an artist and overall growth as a person. He says the title rEVOLVEr is said to “demonstrate the evolution of T-Pain as an artist.”
T-Pain recycled some of his old work, retouching it for his current audience, “rEVOLVEr is drawn from seven albums’ worth of material,” said T-Pain. “There are so many different things on this album. I couldn’t settle on what I wanted to include, but the final result I think will really hit all of my fans and different audiences.”
But don’t get too antsy yet, the Nappy Boy of Nappy Boy Productions wants to keep everyone happy and promises to keep his signature sound in tact, despite his growing fan base,”I’ve developed a new audience from the Taylor Swift stuff, the Bud Light and Toshiba commercials, the T-Pain Mic and App. There is music for everyone on this album, but definitely still classic T-Pain at the same time.”
Lead singles from the album include “Best Love Song” featuring his pretty boy counter part, Chris Brown and the radio smash, “5 o’Clock” featuring [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lily Allen[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Wiz Khalifa[/lastfm]. If these tracks are any indication of the full album, then count me in.
Think about it as a holiday gift, I’m just saying. Have one on me, it’s “5 o’Clock” somewhere…
