We understand that living in Cali means a lot of you are miles away from home this season and plane tickets are crazy expensive. It’s not easy being away from the fam during the holidays so we’ve gathered together Five Free Ways to Spend Thanksgiving With Your Community Giving Or Getting Back In Los Angeles!
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
1855 Main Street
Santa Monica, CA
Check out the Westside Thanksgiving at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. While you are piling on the mashed potatoes, you can also get a basic medial and eye exam, and pick up (or drop off) clothing. If you don’t need a free dinner, but want to give back, the event has a plethora of volunteer opportunities.
Gobble Wobble Santa Monica
Emerson Park, at the intersection of Lincoln and Wilshire
1150 Lincoln Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA 90403
If you’re less interested in piling on the pounds and more interesting in pounding the pavement for a good cause, trot it out this weekend at the Gobble Wobble in Santa Monica, a 5k run benefiting the Westside Food Bank. There is also a costume contest and a food drive.
World Vegan Day LA Thanksgiving Potluck Picnic
Cheviot Hills Park/Rancho Park
2551 Motor Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90064
If you don’t eat meat, but still want to to feast with some friends for a great price (i.e. free), check out the World Vegan Day LA Thanksgiving Potluck. Show up with a dish of something delicious and cruelty-free and you are set! There will be games, music, and green-festivities.
And while you are at it, adopt a turkey from Farm Sanctuary!
Los Angeles Mission
303 East 5th Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013
Give thanks to those you love by giving back to communities at need by volunteering at the Los Angeles Mission. Louie’s story below says it all.
Spend They Day Thinking Of All The Things You Are Grateful For
Even if you don’t go anywhere or do anything, you can spend your Thanksgiving hiking through nature, meditating, making lists of all the things that make you happy, and putting things into perspective.
In Los Angeles, we are truly blessed with beautiful weather, fantastic landscapes, and diverse communities that give us many different vantage points on a life well-lived. Often times, we don’t get the opportunity to just sit, relax, and be in the moment. Having a day off from work can give you an opportunity to do that.
