AMP Music Minute Year In Review: Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Beyonce

[photogallerylink id=136641 align=left]Mother Monster had yet another outstanding year. If you were to ask, say Charlie Sheen, there’d be no question,[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Lady Gaga[/lastfm] is “Winning!”

The New York born singer made sure that this would be a year her little Monsters never forgot, and made it a point to stay on the road for pretty much all year long. But it certainly paid off as Gaga was Forbes top earner for women musicians this year, pulling in about 90 million before taxes.

But Lady Gaga just wouldn’t be Lady Gaga if all she wanted to do was make money. So she also made a difference this year and took a very strong stand against bullying. This included visiting the White House and making sure President Obama knew she was tired  of bullying going unchecked in American schools and lobbied to make it essentially illegal.

She didn’t stop there, though. The world traveling pop star also started a foundation that is intended to bring out the best and unique qualities in a person and teach them to be proud of themselves. Gaga started The Born This Way Foundation with her mother. Meanwhile, she split half of her earnings this year with her father. We bet everyone’s parent’s wish they were as close to their kids loved them as much as Gaga loves her parents.

But the philanthropic Ms. Germanotta didn’t want to leave anyone out of all the excitement from her new album that dropped this year. So she sold her second album Born This Way for a record low 99 cents! She even managed to crash Amazon‘s website!

What more can you say about Lady Gaga? She gives and gives and just when you think she can’t give anymore, she drops unreleased music as a Christmas gift to fans. She is the epitome of hardworking, and dedicated. She’s classy, educated, snappy and we love her.

She is spending the end of the year in Japan sipping tea and eating Shabu Shabu. Next year is a blank slate so far for Gaga, but we just know she is going to fill it with all sorts of awesome and nice things by the end. We hope she enjoys her rest and gets a fresh start in 2012. We can’t wait!

[photogallerylink id=128777 align=left]Party Rock! Oh[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] LMFAO[/lastfm] has always been a staple here at AMP Radio, but this year the rest of the world finally got to get a taste of what we already knew: If you want to party, and you want to rock out doing it, all you need is[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] LMFAO[/lastfm].

The LA based duo took electro-rap to the next level with their new album Sorry For Party Rocking. The band’s smash hit “Party Rock Anthem” basically taught the whole world how to shuffle and still look cool in zebra print spandex. The song was their first No. 1.

Since the success of the song, DJs [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]RedFoo[/lastfm] and[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] SkyBlu [/lastfm]made their MTV VMA and AMA debut in the very same year. They became international superstars this year and something tells us, that the title fits them both rather nicely. Being related to Motown founder Berry Gordy and all.

The band has been on the tour circuit ever since but recently had to postpone the last few dates of the Canadian leg because Skyblu threw his back out and couldn’t perform despite his most valiant efforts.

That’s right, he even tried to work the stage in a mobility chair, but his doctor called the thing off after only one performance. He’ll be resting and relaxing at the end of this year while Redfoo will most likely take the reins and keep the Party Rock flag flying until Sky is back on his feet.

Right now their new hit song, “Sexy And I Know It” is blowing up the airwaves around AMP Radio and beyond.

As for next year, besides the rescheduled shows, the band hasn’t made their plans clear but we all know it will include a good amount of Party mixed with a more than adequate helping of Rock. And that’s just how we like it!

This year[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Beyonce[/lastfm] kept her loves under wrap until it was the perfect moment to display her “Love on Top.”

The former [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Destiny’s Child[/lastfm] front woman had a great year all around. She released her album, 4, and put out a squadron of music videos to accompany the milestone album. Her most engaging would have to be her girl power anthem “Run The World (Girls),” which showed off Beyonce’s dancing skills and commanding stage presence. Basically, if you saw her perform it live or in the video, you could tell who really ran the world and her name started with a Bey!

[photogallerylink id=119911 align=right]But Beyonce’s biggest news of the year had to be her announcing that her and husband of 10 years, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] were expecting their first child. The Houstonian told the world on the stage of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards in a gesture that was clear to all that watched. In the midst of her “Love On Top” performace at the awards show, she unbuttoned her jacket and rubbed her noticeable tummy bump. The smile on her face and glow in her cheeks said everything that we needed to know.

We should have known that it wouldn’t slow her down one bit. Bey performed intimate shows of her entire 4 album as well as her more known hits on the stage of the Roseland Ballroom in New York and made sure to film and release a DVD of the experience so all her fans from everywhere could share those moments with her.

Other than some pesky legal troubles involving a video game company and some Miami real estate headache, Queen Bey must feel on top of the world. She’s been asked about everything in regards to her pregnancy from her vegan diet to pregnancy cravings and whether or not she plans on riffing with her baby to be. Being the gracious woman that she is, she took on each question eloquently no matter how many times she had been asked already.

While there is still a little uncertainty about the baby’s gender, best friend and former band mate[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Kelly Rowland[/lastfm] spilled the beans about Bey and Jay spoiling their “little girl” and since then the speculation hasn’t stopped. But the First couple in Hip Hop are keeping their lips sealed.

By our count, their baby should be here any day now. And that’s just plain awesome! We wish them the very best!
