[photogallerylink id=128447 align=left][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.I.[/lastfm] spent most of 2011 behind bars. The Atlanta rapper was under lockdown for violating probation last year for gun charges that he got back in 2007.
A good amount of drama went down surrounding his release from prison. A stipulation of his release was that he could not perform any business actions or transactions while still technically in police custody. Apparently Tip breached this clause by allegedly having a VH1 camera crew on the private tour bus that was to take him from prison to the halfway house, in which he was to carry out the last 30 days of his sentence. So they sent him back to prison for the remainder of his sentence instead.
But once he was out, he was really out.
On September 30th of this year he hit the ground running. He even did a surprise performance with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm] in Atlanta within days of being released. Though he’s only been out for about 3 months we already have 3 new singles from his upcoming album Trouble Man, which he has slated for an ambitious yet tentative February release, and 2 music videos. We know he calls his label Grand Hustle, but this just takes the cake.
And please believe that he didn’t waste any of the time he spent in jail, it gave him plenty to write about. By the time we checked in with him, he already had 40 songs ready for the new album. This year he also released his first novel, an urban love story: Power & Beauty: A Love Story of Life on the Streets. Not to mention he already is in the works to expand the series.
He’s also mentioned writing a relationship book with his wife, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tameka “Tiny” Harris[/lastfm]. Among the laundry list of projects T.I. has planned, he has also taken time out to develop his artists and spend time with his family, noting that his eldest son Domani is looking toward a career of rapping as well.
It’s clear that the Kang never sleeps. He’s also in the talking stages of a joint album with one of his artists, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]B.o.B.[/lastfm] And the best part is that we get to watch him manage it all on his reality TV show, The Family Hustle. He’s a wild man. Look for Trouble Man in 2012.
And if you can’t wait that long, check out the mixtape he’s dropping on New Years Eve!

[photogallerylink id=130244 align=right]It seems like for every good thing that happened to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] this year, something equally bad came up to bite her in the butt.
This year marked Jenny’s comeback from a long departure to music with her album Love?, which she began recording in 2009 and is clearly her most personal album yet. The album peaked in the Top 10 and sold 83,000 in its first week. The singles “On The Floor,” “I’m Into You,” and “Papi” have all made their way around a dance floor or two and that’s nothing to shy away from.
J. Lo cemented her position as pop culture royalty by becoming the face of multiple brands, like Fiat and Kohls. Not to mention her sustained relationship with L’Oreal. She also started working on her greatest hits album, something that she should be proud of, as many people never rack up enough hits to later compile them.
But while Jenny from the block was nailing down her financial investments for the future, her relationship with husband, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Marc Anthony[/lastfm], was falling apart. It quickly became clear that the two couldn’t salvage the relationship which brought a set of twins into the world.
The couple first broke on amiable terms and all seemed okay. But soon J. Lo was dating a 20-something back up dancer and gifting him nice expensive cars, which apparently drove Marc insane because a story broke that he was suddenly going to fight to get custody of their children, a matter that had already been settled months ago.
Lopez has been on the road and working on her Fox show all year long. It’s too early to tell what her next move is, but we know she will be able to pull it all together and make the best of it. We’re rooting for you, Jenny!

This year everyday was Pink Friday, especially if you happen to be [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm], who had an outstanding year in every regard of the word. The Head Barb in Charge (HBIC) took over every aspect of pop music this year and made sure that by the time we ring in the New Year, the whole world will already know her.
It’s impossible to know where to begin when talking about Nicki’s accomplishments this year. So we will just try to hit on some of her most notable highlights.
[photogallerylink id=134676 align=right]First of all her smash hit “Superbass” went from big to bigger after everyone from internet upstarts, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Karmin [/lastfm]to country-pop royalty [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm] covered the song and shared it with their own fan bases. Even AMP DJ Seena got in on the go ’round and tried her hand at Nicki’s spitfire lyrics.
She also inked a deal with OPI, a nail polish company and has her own line coming out with colors named after her music and personality, every nail will be like an extension of the pop diva herself. She also was presented the opportunity to have her likeness immortalized by a Mattel Barbie Doll, which was too fitting to pass up.
Minaj also made her way around the award shows and other awesome events like the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the American Music Awards, where she performed and won stuff. But she didn’t want the year to end without getting us all ready for her new album Pink Friday: Roman’s Revenge.
Lately, she’s been working a lot with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]David Guetta[/lastfm], and their new song together “Turn Me On” is turning up all over radio everywhere and climbing the charts by leaps and bounds.
Still, Nicki is in the middle of taking over the entire pop world and that wouldn’t be complete without an appearance on the United States’ biggest stage: halftime at the Super Bowl. While nothing has been set in stone, Minaj did suggest that she’d be a featured guest during Madonna’s set. That would just be awesome. But who knows?
What we do know is that Minaj is just one of the many Young Money albums that will be released next year. And we can tell already that her star is going to be one of the brightest still shining when all the dust has settled. Oh yeah, and she did get that Grammy nod for Best New Artist so… she’s killin ’em!
