Flashback Friday: Do You Remember Jazzercise?
Jazzercise classes still exist, but back in the ’80s and ’90s Jazzercise classes–a mixture of jazz dance, aerobics, and light isometric exercise–were all the rage with time-crunched moms and lithe young men with a penchant for neon spandex.
Because it’s “New Year’s Resolution” week wherein we all obsess over what new exercise regime to take up, I started thinking about the pop-heavy, unitard-loving “ancient” art of Jazzercise.
My mom used to drag me to her Jazzercise classes with her where they would play all the latest pop hits of the time (probably something like Madonna’s “Vogue”)–which I was fine with because that meant I got to wear my silver high-top L.A. Gears, hot pink and black polka dot bike shorts, and my animal-print sweatshirt.
Yes, Jazzercise was the precursor to LMFAO’s “Party Rock” lifestyle.
